Love the breakfast burritos. Gave it 4 stars because ONE time I had a hair in my burrito. But they are super good so i still come back. Staff is very friendly.
Just went to order breakfast. 2 employees and no customers. Waited for 5 minutes to order and was completely ignored. Terrible
After more than 4 years in San Luis Obispo, I think I’ve decided that Gus’s has the best breakfast burrito. The crunchy potatoes probably put it over the edge. It’s also got a great local feel to it, with regulars popping in for conversation. I definitely recommend it if you’re undecided.
The way they made my sandwich was perfect didn't have too much mayo or mustard and piled with lots of veggies.
Good food just needs to b bigger
This is my favorite sandwich place in the world, drove 3 hours today to get a sandwich..... Closed early, the guy was leaving. Coming back.
Tasty sandwiches, ample outdoor seating, street parking, and large beverage selection. I still prefer High Street over Gus's, but they're both good.
Great little spot. Good beer selection, yummy breakfast croissants!
Really great breakfast burritos. Just make sure to call in 15 minutes early as they take a bit to make.
Always a good choice if you want a hearty and delicious sandwich. They have been around the city for years and there's a reason they still stand strong. Love love Love! Definitely recommend coming here
Amazing Sandwiches 10/10
Fun place with great service!
We lived within walking distance of Gus's for years and it has been a favorite of ours since the first visit. The sandwiches are very high quality, I would say this is the best sandwich shop on the Central Coast. They have a nice outside patio and the beer selection is good. Sitting outside with friends on a sunny afternoon sharing a beer at Gus's is a simple pleasure. Great neighborhood Deli and beer garden.
Gus's is an establishment. I know there is much contention around what is the best deli in SLO, but, let's be honest, no one can argue that Gus's is at least in the top 3.
If anyone rates Gus's less than five stars, they are mentally unstable. Classic slo style sandos with a great environment and outdoor seating. I'd eat here everyday if I could!
I have not been at Gus's Grocery in some time... the rumor is that the quality had dropped.... let me assure you, it had not. The sandwich that I ordered was fantastic, but price reasonable, the service quick and polite. Great place to relive memories with old friends!
The fried pickle spears rule!
Always great, never had a bad sandwich at Gus's
I love Gus's their quality has gotten better over the years. They have passed other sandwich shops in town for me handily.
Love Gus's!! My favorite sandwich shop in SLO!!
Half a sandwich was huge,And really, really delicious!Ordered it with "everything"All the condiments!
Fabulous sandwiches, and homemade potato chips! Delish!
Always a pleasure to dine with friends an family. The food is fresh and the beer is choice
Only had one sandwich on my way back home to the Bay Area. Hence the 4 stars. Not enough visits . Had roast beef with mayo, sprouts, tomato and lettuce on whole wheat. Absolutely delicious and worth returning to. Add a full bag of Fritos $1.89, and a bottle of Dr. Pepper and the total was $14 95. They have a wide selection of drinks and it is a small grocery. They have other types of specialty sandwiches and they had at least one soup of the day.
This place is a staple in SLO. Awesome staff and even better food.
I want to love this place like I used to...I really do. But my sandwich is wrong EVERY time I come. Either it’s missing something I marked, it’s a whole instead of a half. It’s on the wrong bread. Etc. etc. I always look at my order sheet afterwards...thinking I must have made the mistake? Nope. The wait is always too long, so I just deal with what they give me. But why guys, whyyyyyy?
I love this market, their sandwiches are off the hook! Best dutch crunch ever!
Thank you Gus for a nice sandwich and a beautiful patio. Gus's grocery has changed only tiny bit over the last 40 years. It is always been a little stop out there on Oso Street, and the outdoor patio is a wonderful wonderful addition. I think it's the Gus version of a beer garden. How that can be pretty handy on a warm afternoon, especially a Friday or Saturday afternoon. The sandwich just was okay didn't really get me excited, but I will say everything was fresh and good handled politely delivered outside on the patio to us and we ate every bite. So stop by for a sandwich and enjoy the patio, and whatever you want to drink. Another good choice, personally I'm off to High Street
Not sure how this place has as many stars as it does. It was an incredibly long wait, the staff were not friendly and seemed unprofessional, and the place was dingy. Absolutely do not recommend.
I usually order in online and pickup food hereExcellent veggie breakfast burrito. The perfect size and has the right ratio of everything Parking is on the street and usually there are a few spots available even when it’s busySeating is outside so not ideal for a rainy or cold day but really nice on a sunny day
OMG this place was better then I expected. I love the home town feel there. It's a small establishment no chain, make everything fresh there for you.
Friendly staff, great service and amazing food. The patio is such a great place to hang out and enjoy the day.
Hidden gem. One of the best sandwiches in SLO
Gus' has changed so much since I was younger (I'm local and recently moved back to town).I ordered a Hot Pastrami on a toasted french roll with cheese. What I got was a cold corned beef sandwich on an untoasted, cold french roll. I didn't notice until I got home or I would have definitely taken it back! When I was young I worked downtown SLO at the United Meat Market so I know the difference between corned beef and Pastrami.I very rarely eat anywhere but home because I'm older and on a fixed income now and this was going to be a big treat for me.Sorry to say, Gus' won't have any more of my business, and I will not recommend them, either.
Called in an order and when I showed up the cashier told me my food would be ready in 5 minutes. It was already made, but she didn't want to check the oven for burritos that were already done, she just told me 5 minutes so I would stop asking. I asked her once more during the next 45 minutes, and she told me the exact same thing. I waited an hour and a half before someone else checked the oven and immediately gave me my food. Never seen customer service this bad. I've had bad experiences with her before, but this is finally one that will keep my friends & I from coming back to Gus's.EDIT: cashier has left Gus's, correcting review.
Been in SLO for about 6 years, and I've only been coming to Gus's for the past year. Seems like I've been missing out for the past 5!They've got some awesome sandwiches and KILLER breakfast burritos! Overall, really great food and some amazing people working there, especially during these difficult times. Thanks, Gus's!
All Way's a must eat when in SLO during Lunch Time
Super good sandwich to go with the patio and beer I enjoyed. Fast service, definitely coming back!
One of the best sandwich places in town. Recommend the baguette for bread. Highly recommended
Great sandwiches and beer selection. Can get busy at lunch time
Did you know that they roast off there our roast beef?? No pre formed pre cooked beef here. Very tasty!! Gotta try it if you haven't!!
Awesome food, great beer selection, & great atmosphere! Locals hangout. Love Gus's!
These people took forever and I ordered a bomber sandwich which turned out to be the same exact size as the regular sandwich which my friend ordered. Total ripoff
One of my favorite places to eat in SLO and some of the best sandwiches and breakfast burritos that I have ever had. Lunchtime can get rather busy, so calling in ahead of time to place your order can help you skip the wait. Otherwise, you can always sit out on the shaded patio while awaiting your food.
I got the chicken tender sandwich and it was pretty darn tasty even if it wasn't the prettiest or healthiest. They really go with a laid back honor system and the customers can be disorganized when making space to write down their orders on the paper slips before going up to the cashier. The outdoor seating area is simple and plenty. The sandwiches are pricey for the amount you get but I love how many types of chips and beer they have too!
Best sandwich I ever ate! Homemade potato chips were the bomb! People were down to earth and the place is quaint. Loved it and will go back each time I'm in town.
Deli closes early consistently, sometimes up to an hour before their posted closing time. No rhyme or reason to when they'll serve you food.
Lovely hoke in the wall deli, fresh and fab.
Their sandwiches are awesome! They have outdoor seating to enjoy during the pandemic or anytime.
Just a consistently good sandwich and deli place. Just discovered that you can order online, and I was impressed with the online interface, super easy to use when ordering a custom sandwich with all the toppings were there. They have a big selection of options for your sandwich and will make your sandwich hot if you request it. The outdoor patio is also great on nice days and if you are eating with a group. The breakfast burritos are also great, but be sure to call ahead or else you might have an unexpectedly long wait.
